Travel Story-Lima, Peru #6 Back to Lima

my funny nose...

Back to Lima…
It was sad because I got hurt and I had to go back my rout which usually travelers do not go back the road they once already got. I went to emergency room in Lima, hoping my nose is fine, but after taking x-ray, a doctor said that your nose was broken. What should never happen was happened unfortunately. So, it was time to make a decision how I do my travel.
My answer was “keep going my way” after taking my body rest with a cast on my nose.

Travel Story - Ica, Peru #5- Huacachina

The Accident!!!

After tour Ballestas, I moved to Huachachina in Ica, which famous for the desert and oasis. For the backpackers, this place is where they relax and experience desert which is boogie tour that running on the rough mountain desert with a jeep and sand-boarding on sand valley. That is one of the funniest entertain activity in Peru, and even weather is great rather than Lima where I had kind of homesick because of gloomy wet weather. However, something that I never forget happened while boogie tour! The tour is after gathering eleven people per a jeep, riding rough sand dune and them dropping them off sand valley to do sand-boarding. It usually three times sand boarding on higher and higher valley. The last one, suddenly, I started to roll up on the really high valley with board. It was almost five times according to one of the group travelers who saw me. While rolling up, the board hit my nose, my face was burn with friction with sand, and had so many scratch. Of course, all my body was painful with bruises. When I was stopped, my face was covered with blood. It was really scared moment. The tour guide could not help wiping my blood on my face and driving back to hostel. Our tour had to be stopped because of my accident. At the hostel, I was a very famous girl for the accident. Everyone was trying to help me out and to take care about me. Yes, I was a star then there! Therefore, I had to go back to Lima for the hospital and to decide if I would keep going my travel.

Travel Story-Pisco, Peru #4 'Isla Ballestas'

Since leaving New York, the fifth day I leaved Lima to Pisco to see ‘Islas Ballestas’ which is Ballesta island. After bus, running early morning, dropped me ica stop, I got scared because this place was attacked by serious earthquake which killed about eight hundred people and ruined all of the place, so there was nothing but wracked house and some taxi driver who will drive tourist to the island. While I was taking taxi, I was still scared due to my terrible guess that what if he drive me some other place. But after 30mins, I got ‘Islas Bellestas’
After price negotiation of the ship-tour, I met other group which I have the tour together. So, our group for the tour was the tourist group from Belgium and me from Korea. But the problem was guide because he explained everything in Belgium language. Before the negotiation, the agent said there is English tour guide, but he is from Belgium, so since he met the group he only enjoyed what he guided in his language. Finally he explained me, saying ‘this is penguins.’ I said in my mind, ‘what? I know that!’.. Actually the place was not what I like, so I could be excused the situation. The only thing that I minded is the village not the tour place. Since the fatal earthquake, the poor village was still remaining destructed. I hoped this place get back their fame of the beautiful island.

Travel Story- Lima, Peru #3 Episode in Old Central Lima

I met some Korean backpackers like me in the hostel, so one day we went to tour for old Lime together. There was many people enjoying in central park, old Lima but we had to watch out someone who was tried to steal our bag as people’s advice. We were four and trying to go and look at thumb in old cathedral. But one of us already went before, so he left outside with local guy waiting us. After we toured it, we had to head go hostel because of dinner reservation leaving the local guy. We said sorry and took a taxi, but in taxi my friend, who wasn’t with us in cathedral, started to laugh and we ask why. He said, while we were touring inside, the local guy asked how he could say “Let’s have a sex with me’ in Korean language. There were two girl include me, and without knowing it, she and I felt sorry to the guy not having dinner together. We felt so bad and we blamed him how he could think of it. And, we thought that on going to travel would not easy, so we should care of ourselves because we were traveler by each ourselves. In this point, I sometimes feel that backpacking girl alone is not very safe. But still I prefer that!

Travel Story - Lima, Peru #2 food

The Peruvian famous food
Ceviche, which is a slightly parboil fish in hot water and seasoned by lemon such Peru styled sushi? I’m really crazy for the sushi, but it was not my taste. But if anybody comes to Peru, I really would recommend to experience to have Ceviche because this is famous food in Peru.

A pose that Americans study

When I came here and lived three roommates in Kalamazoo, Michigan almost four years ago, I wondered how postures the America roomies have been. Actually, now my posture is getting almost same with theirs. But first time when I saw they were studying on bed or lying on their face on a couch, I’ve asked ‘are you studying? That was because as I knew in Korea, we cannot study with that posture. If we do that, teacher or parent scold us saying, “Study on the right position” which is sitting down chair, standing back, and slightly bow head. Korean has thought right pose makes studying effect good and concentrate to study and even good to health such as back bone etc, and blocks the obstacle which interrupts studying. So, I’ve often listened it from my parent and many teachers. But my roomies said that they study whatever they want to have a pose, and it’s effective to each person. Soon, I started to change my position sometimes unconsciously when I studied. However, now it has problem. My back bone began to get painful, and sometimes I habit to lay off my things to do in a day which mean I’m lazy sadly…I think personally that to me, grown up by Korean traditional class, I had better have a pose what I learned except when reading books. Is that also cultural difference? I think so.

Travel story - Lima, Peru #1

May 18 2008. I flight to Lima, Peru which I’ve planed to go in South America six years ago. It’s was just after spring semester 2008 was over so, before I leaved I was so exhausted because of the final, moving, raining cold weather in NY. Lima’s weather was not good because South America during June to August is winter, so it was so humid and little chill. My accommodation in Miraflores which is the most developed place in Lima is located very close in entertainment areas and Pacific beach, so even going out at night was not dangerous.

Lima air port to Miraplores - 45 sol (Peruvian Currency)
Accomodation- 30 sol (dormitory)
Meal – around 10 to 20 sol but this was depended on what we eat or where we eat.

"The Lover"

"THE LOVER" by Esther Leem

I've got this book from my friend in Korea last week. Actully the author is my friend, and she wrote 100 couples' love story with their pictures. She met 100 couples, had interviewed them, and took pictures of them. Last year I heard that she was preparing to write a book, but finally this January, her book came out of the world.

A month ago, I had a mail from her, and she said " I will send you the new book, but don't feel like screwed up even if there are so many swteet stories and pictures." She knew I'm a solo...

Anyway, when I got this book last week I was so happy just because I had my friend's book and even in Korean laguage. Also some of the couples were who I've already known. Not as like her expectation, I was not hurt, and I did not feel like screwed up. That might be because I feel that they and I live in kind of different world. It's funny but true. I feel like that. During the winter, when I met her in Korea , I was told that some of the couples were broken up so they asked erase their story which she couln't but she changed their name and put the picture without their faces. That's love story which is doing now by human.

Do you love somone? Then what do you think 'love' is..?

Soul Voice

This is one of the songs in soul voice concert held by purchase college Thursday Aril 9, 2009 in the Performing Art Center. I know the time's doubled with the viral marketing class which I'm taking now and shoud be in classroom. But in this semester, any jazz concert has been only on Thursdays, so I havn't been able to see any jazz performance so far. Anyway, with the reasons that I like the jazz, I'm interested in jazz on campus, and also one of my friends is singing there, I finally came to see the concert in shool.
How was it? It's was so great to me. The first intro of accapella group, 'Choral Plasure' was impressive becuase I've been crazy about accapella so, I was looking to join a group if Purchase has it. The harmony made of only human's voice was always my favorit genre.
In Soul Voice ,they had each solo in every songs, and some of the soilist were amazing. I couldn't belive how the human made that voice! They were very impressive.
They are now an amateur but I expect someday they will be grown great performer.

Why The Hell Is Matt Standing?

This is antoehr Traverl dancer Matt's video.

Before the story...

The travel makes always me thrilling, exitied, and humble. That is becuase tasting other culture is adventure, simultaneously that makes me learn how I see the other cultures with open mind.

Sometimes I met very dangerous people, I had got accident and hurt phisically with some activities, and I had slept in the open area accidently. However, these experieance is very very very valuable to me.
I generally met really good people, and they could be local people or the other travelers like me. The travlers were usually trying to have an effort to be close to other cultures. And we met at any place, we share how we are feeling there thru the traveling, and we are friend. This one is also important memory as well.

The traveling by myself has made me independent and it gave me the really important time to think about how I live which is more importatn what I live doing.

The story which is going to unpact is my personal story, and also I will post tome tips for future travler. This was my live lesson, and school for my life.

The catcher in the Rye

The catcher in the Rye by J.D. Salinger

I like holden's cynical thought and speach which salinger reflected himself. Sometimes that is too cynical so I felt it's even stupid. Also, when I feel like that, the author Salinger is really awesome to me.

holden's dream which is the catcher in the rye to care children not to fall down on valley, may be the wanderer that adapted those reality or responded those reality.

Why didn't I know then.....?
